Your Education Toolbox

Finding success in working with international buyers and investors takes time and education. Here are a few tools to help you get started:

• CIPS—The National Association of Realtors’ Certified International Property Specialist course is strongly recommended as a first step. Go to realtor.Org/cipshome.nsf/pages/education.

• Florida Marketing tour: Florida Realtors® and NAR are organizing a market tour for foreign realty agents.

It will include CIPS courses in Miami and Naples and end by bringing the agents to the Florida Realtors meeting in Orlando on August 25. Go to floridarealtors.org/NewsAndEvents/ International-Events.cfm

• Icrea: The International Consortium of Real Estate Associations includes professional organizations from 28 countries. Go to realtor.org/cipshome.nsf/pages/ICREA.

• realtor® research: NAR and Florida Realtors both publish statistics that will help you better understand the composition and buying tendencies of international customers. Go to floridarealtors.org/Research/index.cfm and realtor.org.

Great Idea Make a list of all types of buyers and sellers and then analyze that list to see what group would benefit the most from your services. By narrowing the type of customers you market to, you can cut your marketing costs and focus more on that particular group. Source: Walter Sanford

Amendment 4 = $34 billion in economic losses

A study by a top Florida economist shows that passage of Amendment 4 in November will result in up to 267,000 job losses, higher taxes and a higher cost of living.

“Nothing could weaken Florida’s economy and hurt Floridians more than Amendment 4,” says 2010 Florida Realtors® President Wendell D. Davis, a broker and regional vice president with Watson Realty Corp. in Jacksonville. “It will trap Florida’s communities in gridlock, shackle development and block the economic recovery. As an organization that fights for the state’s homeowners, Florida Realtors continues to work tirelessly to educate taxpayers about the danger of Amendment 4.”

Florida Realtors is part of a coalition fighting Amendment 4 that includes the state’s largest employers as well as labor unions, local governments and small business owners.

The study, conducted by Tony Villamil, economist for Washington Economics Group, considered both a “modest” and a “most likely” economic impact from passage of Amendment 4. It did not consider a worst-case scenario.
