It takes signifi cant planning and dedication to make the events fl awless. This is what our talented group of volunteers do time after time. Yes volunteers, there are no paid positions in this organization. I ask myself how do they continue to excel in the tasks necessary to produce exciting and informative programs. What does it take to be a volunteer and how do we get more of them? There are many reasons that people volunteer and I would like to highlight a few of them. Many of us get particular satisfaction in sharing a skill set that we have with others that do not yet have that level of skill, but are willing to listen and learn from our cadre of instructors. This tends to give both the instructors and the students a sense of accomplishment and realization of personal goals. Volunteering leads to new friends and strengthens the bond between old friends. Volunteering to pan open doors to many new experiences. It allows you to become a part of a new community where you will be enlightened. It will encourage you to think and act out of your comfort zone, which for many of us is a good thing. You will have the chance to help someone and make a positive difference in their lives. It will feel good to be a part of a new team. Here you can test yourself and expand your horizons as well as the horizons of others. I am confi dent that this will make you a better and more rounded person. Volunteering takes up our time, energy, and sometimes, money. It can be hard work. It can fi nd us doing and seeing new things, which will be challenging. People who become volunteers usually lead richer, happier, and more satisfying lives than those who sit on the sidelines and watch. The real purpose of this column is to get you motivated to attend and/ or volunteer for any of our events. This is your club. We are constantly looking for new ideas and new faces.
